Sony released more details on backward compatibility over at the PlayStaion Blog on Oct 9, 2020. According to Sony, more than 99% of the 4000+ PS4 games will be playable on the PS5 at launch this November. You will be able to play digital version of your compatible PS4 games on your PS5. If you have the PS5 Digital Edition console, you won’t be able to play your library of compatible PS4 disc-based games. The PS5 Disc Drive console will be able to play both digital and physical versions of compatible PS4 games.
Select PS4 games on the PS5 will see increased loading speeds, Game Boost with improved or more stable frame rates, and unlocked frame rates or dynamic resolution up to 4K. You can also play your PlayStation VR games on the PS5. You will need the PS VR headset, DualShock 4 wireless controller or Move Controllers, and PS Camera for PS4. The PS5 HD Camera is not compatible with the PS VR. Also Remote Play from PS4 to PS5 and PS Now streaming are supported. You can transfer digital games, game data, and game saves from a PS4 console to a PS5 console using LAN cables, WiFi, external USB storage device or through cloud storage for PS Plus member.
The list of playable on PS4 only games:
- Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
- TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
- Just Deal With It!
- Shadow Complex Remastered
- Robinson: The Journey
- We Sing
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
- Joe’s Diner
I am surprised there’s only 10 games that are not backward compatible on the PS5. Most of these games I have never heard of. The games on the list I am aware of are TT Isle of Man, Shadow Complex Remastered and Hitman Go: Definitive Edition. We are less than a month away from launch and there are still things I would like to know. What’s the UI like? Which titles will get the Game Boost? Will more games get added to the non backward compatible list?
